PERSONAL EFFECTS Project Outcome:

The outcomes for the implementation of this program include: * Better management of AQIS and ACS risks with pre-border checking of cargo * Reduction in resource requirements for AQIS field work * The ability to re-deploy AQIS resources in other risk management functions * Less administrative workload by changing a "policing function" to a "management of the process" function for both AQIS and ACS. * Faster movement of household & personal effects shipments to the customer

Current Status
Progression of this scheme has been on hold since revised quarantine intervention rates increased the level of AQIS inspections of Personal Effects (PE’s). AQIS and industry representatives met during June 2001 to discuss this project and industry was advised that the project would be placed on hold indefinitely.
Wioth the finalisation of an AQIS review of its regulatory framework, it is expeced that this project be again considered for implementation in 2006
